For everything in this world, there is a start point. By the way here it is for me to a new world of light. Thanks to 'Johann Zahn' who seeded for this world long ago in 1685. I am a recreational amateur trying to grasp the concepts behind lenses, Excuse me !!
New comer to your blog and subsequently your flicker photolog.
The way you use the camera is incredible man. Your pictures are nothing short of breathtaking. What you have done with DOF has instilled a new passion for DOF in me. Are you a professional photographer?
make sure you go for Canon USM ( Ultrasonic Motor) telephoto lenses because it is faster in focusing and you get good sharpness at the extreme number as well (300 mm).
I dont have a USM lense with me, mine is a normal 70-300 telephoto zoom lense.

I am a novice myself. I was almost certain that you were a professional. For instance, the picture of the (white snow leopard?), its hard to imagine how quickly the DOF comes into play. I have a Canon S2IS that I was contended with so far.. looks like I need to re-think.
u might know already. trust me, the Image Sensor (brain) of the camera does really play a role in your clarity and color reproduction. DOF very much depends on the lens you use. when you get these two right, the chances are very high you get the image exactly what you thought.

Great DOF work, bang on target. Have a question; seems like you have a long ish lens. Thinking of getting one myself, any suggestions?
